Tattoo Aftercare
1. Keep It Covered:
- Leave the initial Tegaderm bandage on for 24 hours minimum, up to 4 days.
- When removing the Tegaderm covering, do so in the shower with warm soapy water running over the covering to facilitate removal.
- Gently wash the tattoo with mild, fragrance-free soap and warm water. Pat dry with a clean paper towel.
2. Moisturize and Protect:
- Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, hypoallergenic lotion or tattoo-specific ointment 2-3 times a day.
- Avoid exposing the tattoo to direct sunlight and tanning beds. Wear loose clothing to prevent irritation.
3. Avoid Irritants:
- Do not pick at scabs or peel the skin. Let the tattoo heal naturally.
- Stay away from swimming pools, avoid bathing, hot tubs, and saunas until the tattoo is fully healed.
4. General Care:
- Keep the tattoo clean and dry. Avoid touching it with dirty hands.
- If you notice signs of infection (excessive redness, swelling, or discharge), seek medical attention.
5. Long-Term Care:
- Protect your tattoo with sunscreen, once it's fully healed, to prevent fading.
TATTOO INFECTION AND PREVENTION:
1. Early Signs of Infection:
- Excessive redness, swelling, or warmth around the tattoo.
- Pus or unusual discharge.
- Persistent pain or tenderness.
2. Prevention:
- Keep the tattoo clean and follow aftercare instructions provided by your artist.
- Avoid submerging the tattoo in unclean water.
- Refrain from picking or scratching the healing tattoo.
3. Seeking Help:
- If you suspect an infection, seek medical attention promptly.
- Follow any prescribed treatment and inform your tattoo artist.
Remember, these guidelines are general and it's important to follow any additional instructions given by your tattoo artist. If you have concerns about the healing process, contact your artist or a healthcare professional.
